Grape growers to vote on PR tax
$1.2 million a year would promote Sonoma County wine

As wine regions go, Sonoma County is a lightweight when it comes to the dollars spent on promoting its wines and vineyards.

Napa Valley annually devotes $4 million to wooing well-heeled wine drinkers. Washington and Oregon, among the newest of the New World wine regions, each spends more than $1 million a year.

Even Paso Robles, the emerging wine region on California's Central Coast, annually invests $1.4 million to tell its story.

Sonoma County?

About $500,000.
