Wine bottles to get health danger labelsBy Philip Johnston, Home Affairs Editor
Bottles of wine are to carry health warnings from next year under Government plans to crack down on so-called "binge drinking". The finest clarets and best burgundies will not escape the latest drive to counter the booze culture, which continues on Monday with a hard-hitting advertising campaign aimed at young drinkers.
Officials are in discussions with the drinks industry to agree a new labelling regime for beers, spirits and wine that will highlight the dangers of drinking too much.
Labels are also likely to include details of where to get help for alcoholism. There could be a generic health message, such as "Please Drink Sensibly", though the industry is resisting stronger warnings such as those that appear on cigarette packets.
