I just booked my lodging for my first trip to Napa Valley on my birthday in January.  I'm a bit shy and a little apprehensive about going as I've always liked wine I just don't know a whole lot about it (hence the learning trip).  Could any of you offer any advice as to what I should read up on before I head over?  Or perhaps a recommendation for a good vineyard for those who have already been to Napa (I'm staying at the Old World Inn so anywhere near by would be a plus).

Also I heard a rumor that Napa vineyards may me a little pretentious when it comes to people who don't know their wine; is this true?

Hi Sam,

I suggest that you look on the internet for Napa/Sonoma wineries.  You can find a lot of informations on grapes, wineries, tasting rooms etc..  I don't know where the Old World Inn is located but if you are driving try to visit Artesa Winery, Peju Province in Rutherford and next to it St Supery.  I am sure you will have a good time and don't worry about what people think, enjoy yourself, relax and be happy.

Cheers!
